On the ferry over to Koh Lanta, we were bombarded by the usual hotel sellers etc
Having been scammed so regularly, we generally asume it's all a load of rubbish. But it does sometimes work in your favour to say you'll have a look, to get a free taxi to where you want to go.
Before everywhere we go, we look online at accomodation prices, so we know roughly how cheap we can get it (although a lot of the time we just find somewhere there). This time our minds were elsewhere and we hadn't looked at all.
All of the hotel pictures always look Beautifully appealing but from previous experience, they don't normally look like that.
We decided we would go with one guy, who said we could do a room for £400 baht, which worked out at less than £2.50 each.
Well, low and behold, the place actually looked like it did on the pictures!
There was a lovely pool, restaurant, cool bar.. and the beach was on the back doorstep.
We had practically arrived in paradise and it was just what we were after.
We literally spent our days lazing around the pool in the scorching sun.
With the weather heading into monsoon season, it gets cloudier and Sometimes stormy in the afternoon. But we just found this quite exciting.
Everything on the island was spread pretty far apart. We walked for 30 minutes to find a bar playing the United match one night and some of the roads were literally pitch black with barely any life or vehicles.
We met two great groups of people staying at the hotel, from England and Canada. So on the second night, we went to the hotel bar with them.
We only got half a shake each, for 200 baht (around £4) and I think we all Agreed that it was definitely £4 well spent.
We spent the next four hours laughing, being happy, singing to Oasis and deciphering whether some of the stars in the sky were infact stars, planes, or falling meteorites.
Our finally day was again spent by the pool, watching a beautiful sunset..
.. and ended with a shambolic game of pool by Marie and myself. We're trying to learn but it is a very very slow process.
There are things to do on the island but for some reason or other we didn't do it..
There's a waterfall but with it being low season it's more like a drizzle. There's a nature park but our friends said it wasn't all that. And we almost got scooters again but as it was our last day, we didn't want to have to get more baht out.
Still, we had a lovely time. And I would definitely recommend Koh Lanta to others.
Next stop...Malaysia!
