Day 12 - 14 Hong Kong

The change from NZ to HK is insane!

To appreciate the best of both worlds I think this was the perfect order to do it..We've gone from beautiful scenic and spacious (with lashings of vineyards) to lively compact and built up (with lashings of street food)

Where we're staying is pretty much like a shopping market.. where you find lifts for different blocks.. for each block, one side goes to odd floor numbers, the other to even. So finding our hostel was the first hurdle but we managed in the end!

We explored the city.. Marie and Jack ate chicken feet (which is basically wrinkly chicken skin on bone).. we stumbled across about 5 weddings, walked through a park where everyone was doing yoga, meditation and excercise in their own little world.. and soaked in the hustle and bustle if the city.. you can see why it's a big shopping city - there's practically a Chanel on every corner!

We got the ferry over to HK Island and had a drink in a bar On top of the IFC building, which is full of fancy designer shops and business people (we looked a bit out of place in jesus sandals and bum bags). ..

Then we met up with Marie's friend Kylie, her boyfriend Ross and their friends.. Their friend was djing in a little hidden place called XXX. We snuck some cans in, that worked out at 50p each, and danced to 50s music all night. It felt a bit like we were extras in the Dirty Dancing watermelon scene..  it was brilliant!!!

We went to the HK History Museum, which was cool...

Then to Ngong Ping, to see the Giant Budda (the biggest in the world) and temples

I spent a large amount of time cooing at CUTE Chinese babies!

We went to a cute fishing village called Tai o - where we met a lovely man called Pinki, who said there's longevity here because it's tranquil and they breathe in fresh air and eat fresh fish. He said it's nicknamed oriental Venice.

Then we got the ferry over to HK island and met up with Kylie, for some amazing local food..

Food listed on every menu never failed to amaze us.. ear cloud, tip of chicken wing, curly pig tail, magic belly and intestine were some of our favourites (to look at on paper, not on our plate) ..

They have a number of ways of eating eggs too.. there's tea eggs, jellified eggs (we don't have a clue how this happens).. and eggs mixed into a fruit salad!

Before we left we just had time for a quick look around the markets..

And wanted to bring all these puppies home..

HK.. you've been fantastic.

Super big thanks to Kylie and Ross, for showing us places we'd have never known to go to and for making our short stay extra special.

Next stop.... Thailand!!!! (There was a slight change of plan)..
