Over the next 5 days were exploring the North Island and staying at hostels on the way until we end up in Napier, where my brother and his girlfriend, Aurelie, are living.
To begin with, we did a four hour roadtrip North, to The Bay of Islands.
It was different to a four hour journey in Manchester. . Because you're in awe the whole way at how beautiful everything around you is..
Trees are a million times bigger and we're 100% sure Jurassic Park must have been filmed here because you feel like a Tyrannasaurous Rex is gonna walk out any minute..
We arrived at Edelweiss motel, where mum's friend from work Staceys mum works...she's actually called Joan but because we knew her as 'Staceys mum' we had to keep singing that song along with other songs replaced with 'Joan' for the best part of the 4 hour journey! She'd left us a bottle of bubbly in the fridge and paid some of our motel money too... cute!!
We drove over to Waitangi, where the treaty was signed between England and the native Maori people in 1840.
We had a traditional Maori welcome, where they did the Haka and we nominated Sam to be the chief haha.
We explored the grounds.. which were beyond beautiful...
Then we got a car ferry over to Russell.. which was a very different place to anywhere we'd ever been before.
Marie thought it was slightly hillbillyish, Jack thought it was like Desperate Housewives.. me, Sam and Mum just thought it was beautiful. If anything a bit retro American like?
To end the day.. we had BBQ and wine!
